So I’ve reached a point where I need an exotic in my life or at least a couple unique cars. What should I do? Ultimately my goal would be a GT-R or a F360 (and a reach would be the F430). I think I can reach that goal in about 2 years. But am I stupid for going for the Nissan or the Ferrari? Should I get a Carmax’d M5 or M3 instead? Or should I go for a R8? What about a Carmax 911 Turbo?

But in the interim, I really really want a Toyota Supra. I don’t care if it’s a NA-Automatic. I just need a Supra in my life. Thoughts and what I should do?

Thoughts: Don’t spend $30,000 on a 2-decade old naturally aspirated Toyota with an automatic transmission. Also, don’t spend $70,000 on something you can’t really drive like you want to without worrying.

AW11 MR2. It’s mid engined, exotic, and affordable. Could pay cash. they are a blast to drive too.

Lotus Elise is a fun, can’t go wrong answer for cheap

R8 is way cooler IMO than 360 or 430 or GTR. Porsche is too common for me.

Always a v8 vantage to be classy

I love Lotus so I like the Evora too, although many are not fans

I always loved the idea of a BMW 850i, but ownership of a 20 year old V12 German coupe terrifies me.

So, what your saying is to get a Miata with a body kit and call it a day?

I think you need a better “why”. You want a fun, unique car, and most likely have the money to do so, but why? Why this car or that car?

If you want a Supra, buy a Supra. If you want to drive it, don’t buy a stock one, all that collector value is useless to you. Buy something a little janky, and then spend non-volatile money getting it fixed up to a nice 350whp daily by a shop like Titan Motorsports.

If you want something more unique than that, why not buy an Alfa Romeo 4c?

Understandable. So you’re suggesting that there really isn’t a happy medium here? Or E92 M3 that you can cop for 35k with warranty the happy medium?

Is it possible to import them from Canada? The prices of the ones here are practically insane.

What about...

Only $22,000.

Yeah, okay, salvage title, minor detail.

Possibly, though they’d need to be Canadian market vehicles or you run into the 25 year thing. I suppose to offer practical advice I’d kind of need to know your price range, I was assuming if you’re looking at a 360 then you could afford a Supra. A janky Supra turbo with questionable modifications should be doable for 25k-30k. It seems high for a 20 year old Japanese import, but they’re holding their values at least as well as those Ferraris.

If you want unique on a smaller budget, Flyin Miata has turnkey LS cars for sale:

I’m suggesting you should go test drive an M3 or M5 and see if that’s what you really want. I have convinced myself that I really need a D2 S8, but I haven’t driven one and I know it’s unrealistic to think I would be putting 90 miles a day on it commuting to work.

Salvage title huh? Did they happen to find it on the side of the road in Argentina with underbody damage and broken windows?

I found the GT-R to be very fast, but not especially fun. I’d look elsewhere.

Depending on what you’re looking to get out of the car, the Z06 could be a good option. It’s super fast, super fun, makes great noises, sits the way a supercar should, looks mean and sleek. But nobody will be too impressed when you say you drive a Corvette.

I agree with a lot of the commentators. Go and drive these cars!

I had myself convinced I needed a 911. I went and drove one and came away not really wanting one anymore.

It’s tough to go wrong with an M3 or an M5. It’s really as close as you can get to an “everyday exotic” without breaking the bank or giving up too much practicality. Maintenance is a middle ground between true exotics and “normal cars” although some things will still shock you. Once again though, go drive them. Don’t only listen to the reviews because everything is so subjective.

I kind of agree with that. I’ve driven a handful of E92’s in multiple configurations and I walk away thinking “Nice, but not in love.”

Family friend has a. F430 and it was one of my most memorable experiences especially since he dropped me off for a community service thing I was helping at in it. I would go for the R8 though. Its got pretty much the whole package, decent reliability, V-8 or preferably a V-10, and a gated shifter to put the icing on the cake.
